Graduation

Celebrating your accomplishments

During your final trimester before completing the requirements for graduation, you must complete an application for graduation. Applications can be picked up at the receptionist's desk; completed forms should be returned to your counselor. Failure to complete an application may delay your graduation date.

Important note: Osseo Area Learning Center administration and counseling staff can only recommend a student for graduation; the home school principal has final approval on a student's graduation.

Graduation from your home school

In order to participate in the graduation ceremony at Maple Grove, Osseo or Park Center senior high schools, you must have completed all OALC, home school, District 279 and State of Minnesota graduation requirements, and be enrolled at OALC or your home school until the end of the school year.

Remember: You are responsible for fulfilling all requirements from your home high school. Examples include: Foundations (Maple Grove), Pathways (Osseo) or Advisory (Park Center). Contact your home high school for more information.

Early graduation

Students enrolled at OALC who meet District 279 and State of Minnesota graduation requirements before their assigned graduation year will not be allowed to graduate early. If you have extenuating circumstances and wish to graduate early, you must meet the requirements of Osseo School Board Policy 613. To begin the process of requesting early graduation, complete the Application for Early Graduation through your home high school prior to the end of your eleventh grade year.

Common reasons for early graduation include:

  • You have been accepted for enrollment at a post-secondary institution and coursework will commence prior to your scheduled graduation date.
  • You have been accepted into the military and will begin before your scheduled graduation date.
  • You will begin full-time employment prior to your scheduled graduation date and your employer requires that you have completed the graduation requirements before beginning full-time employment.
  • You have extenuating circumstances.

Approval of the Application for Early Graduation is at the discretion of the principal of your home high school. Please keep in contact with your home high school for information regarding graduation.

Graduation procedures

In-district students

All students who live in the Osseo Area Schools attendance area and completed the graduation requirements from OALC must graduate from their home high school. The only exception to this is if the home high school principal, the principal of the high school the student wishes to graduate from, and the OALC principal all agree to the student switching schools for graduation.

Out of district student (never attended a District 279 high school)

An out of district student who has never attended an Osseo Area Schools high school but has completed the district's graduation requirements from OALC may choose which high school to graduate from.

Out of district student (attended a District 279 high school)

An out of district student who has attended at least one Osseo Area Schools high school and has completed the district's graduation requirements from OALC must graduate from the high school they were enrolled in the greatest amount of time. The only exception to this is if the home high school principal, the principal of the high school the student wishes to graduate from, and the OALC principal all agree to the student switching schools for graduation.

Out of district student (never attended a District 279 high school) enrolled in Independent Study only

An out of district student who has never attended an Osseo Area Schools high school and has completed the district's graduation requirements from OALC in the Independent Study program only must receive their diploma from their home (out of district) high school.
